    Starting first in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, cocktails first appeared in print in 1806, describing a mix of spirits, sugar, water, and bitters. The late 19th century's "Golden Age of Cocktails" brought bartending a new name, when prominent figures like Jerry Thomas set a new level of standard.
